I'm working towards my GED, but schools are closed. A laptop will change everything!

I was in classes before the pandemic, but now I can't take virtual classes. With a laptop, I'll be able to study online with a tutor.

Overview

I am a 62-year-old woman. I am currently trying to get my GED. I was in classes before the pandemic, but had to switch to virtual classes due to my school was closed. During this time, I was given a tutor to finish my work online.

My goals are to study hard and complete my GED. Once school is open again, I want to continue my education. I am motivated to obtain my degree in the future.

I need a laptop to engage in remote learning. Without a laptop, I can’t continue courses virtually.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to have a laptop to complete my GED courses. Having a laptop will allow me to be connected to resources that will help me study, keep me motivated and further gain knowledge.

I am Maria's social worker and I have been working with her for a little over a year now. As per our work together, Maria and I check in weekly through phone calls and she attends our groups once a week. We also help connect her to any services in the community she may need, such as healthcare, housing, etc. Maria has had this goal of completing her GED for as long as I’ve known her. She is very driven and determined to achieve it, and was in the process of doing so before needing to rely on virtual learning. Obtaining a laptop would be a great help to her to achieve her educational goals.
