I'm ready to start a new life by making and selling traditional Kiondo bags!

I need to find a reliable source of income because I'm unable to do the labor work I used to do. With supplies I can build a life & support my family.

Jane: "Thank you for your help" Nov 9, 2021

Hi, I am Jane and I am fistula survivor. I thank you very much for giving generously. I will buy the sisal fibres for Kiondo weaving to support my children. Thank you and God bless you.

Overview

I am a 58 year old mother of two and fistula survivor. I was in school when I got pregnant at age 17 and developed a fistula during the prolonged labor. I dropped out of school and got married and have lived with the fistula ever since, 41 years.

My goals are to earn money with a small business selling Kiondo bags. I learned how to make them in a workshop with an organization called Beyond Fistula. I used to do casual labor to earn for my family but after so many unsuccessful fistula surgeries my body is weak. My husband does not have a reliable job.

I need $300 to buy supplies for making Kiondo bags. I need the materials from the sisal plant and dyes to get started with my business.

Meeting this need will help me because I need to earn and I cannot do manual labor anymore. I can sit and make the bags and earn for myself and my family. All I need is help to start.

Jane recently completed our Kiondo basket weaving workshop. She has suffered with a fistula through multiple miscarriages and her whole working life. I have seen how changed she is already with the hope this plan has given her - she is deeply driven to get her small business making Kiondo bags off the ground. We will be with her every step of the way.
