Overview
I need bedding, towels, pots and pans, and dishes. Meeting this need will help me so I can see the close of 2013 peacefully. I can finish up my place with everything it needs and everything I need, see my family at the holidays without thinking about where I'll get that money from, and start of 2014 with less stress.
My goal is to take the steps to work towards an Associates Degree in social service work. I work in transportation right now though. Any little bit of assistance along my journey there will only make my steps lighter on that path.
My current situation is I just moved out of a supportive recovery house. It was an amazing experience that allowed me to save up my income and prepare myself for independent success. I moved at the beginning of November, but now the holidays are coming. I would like to celebrate the holidays with my grandchildren which requires travel expenses and cutting a small corner by helping me get basic necessities would really help so that I can spend my saved money on a train ticket!
I'm from Champaign, IL, but I moved to Chicago in 2002. I currently live in Cicero, IL.
I have three adult children and I'm most proud of how I always get back up no matter what gets in my way or knocks me down!
Something interesting about me is that I want to be a social worker who works with victims of sexual assault to give back to my community. I'm happiest when others are happy.

Validated by Lauren from The Cara Program (What does this mean?)
Each need is validated by a nonprofit that knows the person and can verify that the help is necessary. Funds flow from Benevolent to the nonprofit, which then gets them to the person in need and lets us know how it went.

We met when LaToya began her time at Cara -- January of 2013. Throughout her time in our program, she took on all opportunities and trainings set before and by May, she was in a full-time job working for a major transportation company in the city. She routinely gets the highest marks on her performance evaluations and talks of making her a permanent, unionized employee in the new year are floating around.
I think meeting this need is important because it will allow LaToya to meet other needs that she has in the meantime. Sometimes a small boost is all someone requires to get other elements of their life in order.
