Teresa from San Jose, CA

I worked hard to raise 5 children. I need a taco cart for a self-supporting business.

Because of my health I cannot work regular hours. My own taco cart would allow me flexibility and to serve my food.

Teresa is on her way to start her own business! May 2, 2014

Teresa thanks Benevolent for helping her achieve a long time dream. She is happy for all the people who helped her, and thanks them for their donation and for believing in her.

Thanks to this support in buying the taco truck she is now able to obtain all her permits to start her own business as soon as possible.

Overview

I'm from Michoacan, Mexico. I moved to the U.S. about ten years ago. I live with my children. Something interesting about me is that I like to dance and listen to music. I'm happiest when it's wintertime because I enjoy the snow and visiting Reno this time of year. I'm most proud of raising my five children and teaching them values, they are all hard working and good people.

I need a mobile taco cart to start my own business. Meeting this need will help me because it will allow me to become self-sufficient. Being able to have my own business would give me the flexibility to work on my own schedule. For this reason it is my dream to have my own business selling food. I can work at my own pace doing something I love.

My current situation is that I don't have enough money to start my own business. This has been my dream for a very long time. I am diabetic and had a heart attack and mini stroke. I can't do heavy jobs, I have high blood pressure. I can't work a full time job because of my medical conditions. My doctors has restricted me from heavy jobs. I have a lot of doctors appointment that wouldn't allow me do work a 9-5 job. My goal is to become self-sufficient. Being able to have my own business would give me the flexibility to work on my own schedule. For this reason it is my dream to have my own business selling food, I can work at my own pace doing something I love. This will help pay for part of the cart and I will work with my advocate and family to find other sources of funding to complete the cost. I have saved up money, thanks to my family's help, to obtain permits.

I have five children, to this day they have all valued what I have done for them. They thank me because God helped me bring them to this country, the country of opportunities. They are very happy children, we share many moments together. If there is every a problem we talk about it as a family. I like to be independent and work. I like to help others if I can. I've helped many people use public transportation. I have also referred people to shelters and places where they have help for individuals such as food, clothing etc. I like to help people because many have helped me.

Teresa first came to our organization for help seven years ago. Recently, I've been working with her with self-sufficiency services.

I think meeting this need is important because it will help her gain economic independence and achieve a life-long dream. She has overcome many adverse circumstances and is very resilient, this would help get her closer to achieving her dream.
