Cheryl from Chicago, IL

I'm fighting cancer. Transportation, one month's rent, and clothes are critical!

My goal is to get well! As I wait for SSI to kick in this spring, I need help with transportation to cancer treatments, clothing, and one month's rent

Overview

I need assistance with transportation, clothes and help covering one month of rent until my SSI kicks in. This includes making a payment to my building, buying bus cards to get back and forth to my cancer treatments and buying new clothes because I have had a mastectomy and lost a lot of weight. I can no longer fit any of my clothes and my self-esteem is already very low.

Meeting this need will help me because I want to be self-sufficient and get back to who I am and back to work. My goal is to get myself well so that I can get back to work and take care of myself and no longer be a burden to anyone. I also want to go back to school to become a nurse. That is my dream.

My current situation is I was diagnosed with cancer last year and had to undergo a mastectomy. I also had 3 aneurysms and Bells palsy, which has frozen one half of my face. Because of this, I am currently unable to work and fallen behind in everything. I am even unable to go to the doctor for much needed follow up treatments. I am asking for assistance to be able to take care of myself.

I'm from Chicago and I live in Mercy Housing Lakefront. I'm most proud of my accomplishments and surviving everything that I have gone through. Something interesting about me is that I am a positive and upbeat person and I'm happiest when I'm around my family.

We met when Cheryl came to me for assistance in February.

I think meeting this need is important because Cheryl really wants to get back on her feet and become self sufficient
