Darrel shares his excitement! Apr 7, 2014
"I am so happy to hear that supporters have assisted me in such a way that is priceless. Now my confidence going on interviews has increased 500%. I am looking forward to going back to work, and giving back to individuals, families, and communities.
I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart!"
Overview
I need dental work done, specifically help on a partial. This includes a two-part partial that will make up for five missing teeth in my mouth, four that face outward and affect my smile.
My goal is to return back to social services, which is what I did for work in Maryland and what my degree is in.
Meeting this need will help me because having a partial will give me confidence and the ability to masticate my food properly. I am looking forward to building my life up and putting my social work degree to use. I need to be able to charm and shine in an interview!
My current situation is I am unemployed and recently relocated from Baltimore, Maryland due to some health-related challenges. I have insurance left over from a previous job, but it is limited. I found a dentist on the south side that will work with me and allow me to pay installments. The problem is I have only just under $200 saved, despite my lack of employment. Right now I need help so that I can get my confidence and smile back!
I'm from Baltimore, Maryland. I live on the west side of Chicago.
I'm happiest when I'm helping others. Something interesting about me is I value family and helping the community. I am also interested in accomplishing running a marathon and writing a memoir.
I'm most proud of finishing college.

We met when Darrel began the programming in January of 2013. Darrel comes by way of Baltimore and has advanced certificates and a degree in social work and drug and alcohol addiction counseling. Due to a lack of dental access as a child and young adult, he has been more recently afflicted with tooth decay and loss.
I think meeting this need is important because having a full smile again will make Darrel all the more confident. Because he wants to enter in a professional working environment, it is important that he can present in the best way possible. Also, he has been saving his personal money that he gets from odds and ends and is on a tight deadline to get this work done before his insurance lapses--if he gets this work done now, he'll save a ton of money than waiting to do it later!
