James from Detroit, MI

Rebuilding my life after prison. I need car repairs as I work towards my goals!

Repairs will help me access resources & volunteer opportunities that may lead to work positions. I am determined to rebuild my life and to find stable work!

Overview

I am a certified paralegal and received my certification from Blackstone College. I also have credentials in builders trade. Physical health is important to me also. I pride myself on my ability to help others improve their health.

My goals are to get a job and go back to school for a health science degree. I'm open to any type of employment at this time just to get back into the workforce. Ideally I'd like to start working and go to school part-time.

I need transportation to get to and from interviews and eventually work (when I land a job). A car will also help me access resources and volunteer opportunities that may lead to work positions.

Meeting this need will help me because I am trying to stay off the streets. Having transportation will allow me to do that because it will get me to job interviews and work on-time (once I get a position). I am determined to rebuild my life. Getting my car repaired will keep me on the path to self-sufficiency.

I've been working with James for seven months. He has made great strides since re-entering society and is working really hard to get back on his feet. Once he waited on the bus for almost the entire day and it never showed up! Relying on the public transportation system in the city has been his biggest frustration and barrier to getting things done that he needs to do to get back on his feet. For example, he missed an interview for employment because the bus didn't come on-time. With car repairs he will be able to go when he needs to and get to where he needs to be on-time.
