In the dance class I learned to stretch first before I attempt to do any dances. The teacher stressed how important stretch is to the body. Plus I found out that the music is based on polyrythums 4 ...4 beats  with two or more beats . The dancer release and contract the turso naturaly smooth to the beat of the drums . During the dance I bounce...double bounce...stretch and groove at the approtiate sound of the music .  The classes were one hour per day...I had three dance classes, I learned to plan a dance routeen according to the music I choose .

Thanks to people like you...I realized Iam a dance teacher .   I dont have certificates to prove this fact but I do have the experience  ( starting with dance classes at Chicago State University 1986 ).  Then I went to, Jamacia with Muntu  and took more dance classes in1990 . On my job at the Chicago Postoffice I was in the postal chior...I was one of the background singer  for 8 years and also I was a  dancer in the choir..I have a vdeo to prove this.  When I retired from the postal office, I went to the lake with a tooth ake and laid down.. the music was so healing that I visit the lake often and dance there often .. The lake is my teaching ground untill I get a building to teach in . Now  I have a seven year old grand daughter who dances with me because I paid for her lessons when she was two years till now.

On Fathers day this year the drummers on 63rd street beach gave a cook out.  Several drumers drummed several dancers danced and I gave dance lessons.. I am a dance teacher in the style of Yoga, martial arts combined with African /Jamacian dances. I dont have a name for my style of dance but this I know....people love to see me dance...they ask is Isadora goining to dance today ? For this encouragement your orginization gave me I am thankful .One day  I like to put on a huge drum/musical with my husbands Jazz band and all my muscian friends.

Isadora's statement on hearing her need has been funded: Mar 5, 2012

I thank you, my mother thanks you and my family thanks you for helping me to be better at what I love too do ( dance ) .

Overview

I want to go back to school and get certificates in dance to teach children, and people of all ages, dance through community organizations.  I've been working in community gardens, as well as teaching children and adults music and dance.  I currently coordinate the 63rd Street Drummers.

The money will go towards tuition costs for dance classes, through Discovery Center on the north side. It will give me the license I need to teach dance in community–based organizations.

This goal supports the need to attain certification to make me marketable in the field.  To do this I need to take 4 classes toward my certification.

My plan is to begin taking classes at the Discovery Center in the winter of 2012.  If I can meet this goal I will have a marketable skill at the thing that I love the most.  I will give back to my community and be able to feel satisfied doing so.

I believe this is the best solution because I will have a little financial boost offered to me in order to get over the hump of the tuition payments. Why aren’t alternatives as good?  Because I can’t afford to pay back a loan.

I am a single mom, seperated, living with my son in his home.  I'm just six credit hours away from a bachelors degree in recreation, with a minor in physical education.  My near-future aspirations are to teach dance in the community to adults and children.

I have known Isadora since 2005 when I was a consultant with LISC through their Building Communities through the Arts program.  She was always an active participant in working with all of the community arts projects.  I have seen her manage a lot of the community talent, and over the past 3 years, she has become the talent.  She has been dancing and drumming and working a lot with other artists.

It’s not just for art’s sake that she does this work-- it’s to support events in the community for non-violence, health purposes, and any other social justice cause that needs attending to.  I remember she was dancing on 91st street, with the drummers, dancing and drumming for neighborhood safety and non-violence in the community.  She was also dancing in an ecumenical service last spring with the drummers in our community park.  She is always encouraging people to grow and share with the community.

I think it would be excellent for Isadora to become certified to teach.  It would help fulfill our Quality of Life plan since there are not enough dance opportunities in our communities for kids or adults to study and dance.
