Overview

My name is Sheila and I'm an unemployed social work professional. I'm a member at Cincinnati Works and have successfully completed their Job Readiness Program. I'm also working with my Advancement Coach in seeking permanent, full-time employment.

My short-term goal is to sit for the social work licensing test to become a LSW (Licensed Social Worker). My long-term goal is to secure stable employment as a social work professional. Ever since working as an activity monitor with a social service agency assisting juvenile delinquent boys, I have known my calling is to be a social work professional. I enjoy helping individuals connect the dots, so that they can be whole again and rejoin the circle of society.

I'm in need of the funds to take the LSW exam. Though I have my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati, I still need the licensure in order to put my degree to use. In the past 2 years, I have taken whatever job was available to me. I have worked as a cook, a transportation driver, and a tax preparer. Unfortunately, these jobs were either part-time or seasonal and allowed me to only address my month-to-month expenses leaving nothing to go towards saving money needed to take the LSW exam.

Recently, I have had several great interviews. At least four of those prospective employers stated that while they were pleased to see that I had a master’s degree in social work, they could not hire me because I do not have a social work license. Obtaining my social work license will help me to secure stable employment, propel me forward in my chosen career path, and be the catalyst necessary to ensure my future stability and self-sufficiency.
