Jose from Chicago, IL

Ready to apply for a job with the transit system, but I need work gear to get hired.

As a construction worker, I have the skills for the job, but I need work boots, safety gear, and a uniform to get hired.

Overview

I am 45 years old, divorced, and have two young male boys. I am a construction worker by trade, but have been struggling to get a steady job since the last company I was employed with closed down in 2010.

One of my goals is to have a permanent position in a good paying job so I can eventually have my own apartment. I also want to be able to help put my sons through college so they can get the education they deserve.

I'm currently homeless and live in a transitional housing program. Some of my current needs that will help me with my employment goals are proper attire for an interview, money to help get me to and from work until my first paycheck, and I need a uniform, steel work boots, and safety equipment that I must supply for a position I am applying for with CTA.

Meeting this need will help me move forward so I can get my life back on track. By having the things I need in order to start my employment, this will also help me in securing an apartment with the goal to move my sons in with me and eventually go back to school.

I have known Jose here at Center for Changing Lives from our employment coaching program. He's someone that I've worked with on developing his life vision. Securing a permanent employment position with a living wage is one of Jose's main goals. He's close to getting a position with CTA. All he needs is assistance in getting a work uniform needed to start the position, and public transportation until receiving an income once he begins working. Jose is someone who is very committed to his goals, and accomplishing them as they affect his overall life vision of securing permanent housing.
