Umar got the keys to his apartment! Feb 12, 2015
Umar got the keys to his new apartment today. He hasn't had a stable place to live in over 20+ years! We sent him home with blankets and a pillow so he can sleep on the floor. Anything you can do to help Umar get a futon would be amazing! Thank you!
Overview
My name is Umar and I have been homeless for 20+ years. I'm very artistic - I've painted professionally and also write professionally. I have finally been given an opportunity for a stable housing program and I could not be more excited. I get my keys on January 27th, but because I've been homeless I do not have any belongings.
My goals are to find employment, reconnect with my loved ones, and to be a productive member of the community. I want to live the American dream.
I really need a bed to sleep on so I can finally get proper rest so I will finally feel well so I can continue my search for employment. I plan to be gainfully employed by early April so I can begin starting my new life housed!
I've been down for so long and with this new housing opportunity I have new hope again and a new outlook on life. Getting a good night's rest in my new apartment is just the beginning!
Need funded!
Thank you for helping Umar fund this need.

I first met Umar during the Sunday Night Supper Program at Fourth Presbyterian Church. He has been doing case management for over a year at the EDSSC and was finally pulled off of a housing waiting list with Heartland Alliance. I was thrilled to share the news with him and am really excited to see what is in store for Umar. He has so many goals, and housing is such a huge step in the right direction for him. It would be so wonderful to see Umar get this help and finally get to start living the "American Dream" he always speaks of. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated!
