Resilience: an update on Beatriz May 7, 2015
Kayla sends us this update on Beatriz: "Beatriz was in a car accident the night before her first day of work. She was recently moved from the hospital to a rehabilitation center. She has been resilient in her efforts to keep working on her career and education goals, all the while recovering from the accident. It will be a long road, but she is strong and capable and still so grateful for the support she received from Benevolent funders. The funds have been used for transportation and have supported her with getting to and from necessary appointments. Thank you all again for your support and well-wishes."

Thank you for helping Beatriz fund her transportation needs! She was officially hired with UCMC and starts later this month. She is happy and confident and excited about the positive changes that are starting to happen. She has already started working on her housing and familial goals and has even mentioned that she would like to start looking at Nursing programs! We are so excited to see what the future holds for her and so appreciative of those who were able to help make it happen.
Overview
I am a 21-year-old woman who just moved to Chicago from Puerto Rico. I'm trying to get a stable job so that I can bring my children to Chicago to live with me.
My goals are to get full-time employment, enroll in a nursing program to get my nursing degree, and find stable housing for me and my family.
I need to be able to move around the city in order to find a job. I recently interviewed for a housekeeping position at the University of Chicago, but it is too far for me to get there without access to the CTA. I need 2 CTA 7-day passes so that I can get to and from work until I can use my own money from the paycheck I will receive.
Meeting this need will help me because getting to and from work is the only thing keeping me from this job. Getting this job will allow me to move forward on my goals and create a better future.

I have known Beatriz through the employment program here at Center for Changing Lives. In this program, job-seekers work with their employment coaches on setting and achieving career goals through 1-1 meetings and job readiness workshops. Beatriz is a dedicated and hard-working young woman with the drive to achieve her goals. She is on the brink of getting full-time employment and it would be so wonderful to see her receive this assistance.
