Ray from Berkeley, CA

I'm striving toward permanent housing. I need a laptop to move forward.

A laptop will allow me to go back to school to train in the helping field. It would also aid in my search for permanent housing.

Overview

I am an open-minded individual who is working hard to overcome obstacles and be a better person all around. I do not want my circumstances to define me. I currently attend several support groups to help me understand myself and be the person I've always known I could be.

My goals to obtain permanent housing and to live the rest of my life happy and safe. I really want to go to Merritt College to get a certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling to help other people overcome addiction and other issues related to trauma. I mentor others now and know I could be more effective with training.

I would appreciate a laptop so I can effectively go back to school to train in the helping field. It would also aide in my housing search. The affordable housing market is very competitive and it is imperative to be able to stay "on top" of the opportunities as they arise.

Meeting this need will help me keep up in the world of technology. I'll be able to complete my classwork and research housing opportunities. I am determined to gain the knowledge necessary to give back and help others. It will validate my own personal experience and allow me to bring it to the table when helping others.

In spite of his many years of homelessness, Ray has been able to overcome life-changing obstacles through hard work and diligence. He is currently in subsidized housing and is utilizing various agencies to improve his quality of life. Ray receiving a laptop would benefit him in many ways. First, it would help him with his permanent housing search by identifying properties he qualifies for and help track his applications. Also he is very interested in giving back and would like to train as a Mentor/Counselor to help others. The laptop would be crucial in his training.
