Overview
I am a 24-year-old Eritrean refugee living in Chicago. I have been in the US for seven months and I am a wife and mother of a 2-year-old girl. I have a complicated medical history that has required many hours of physical therapy and my doctor has recommended this brace to assist me in my recovery.
My goals are to become healthy and increase my mobility so that I can take care of myself and my family. I would like to enjoy all the opportunities that life in the United States affords me.
I need a Saebo Step brace for my drop foot condition. This was recommended to me by my doctor and will help me on my path to recovery.
Meeting this need will help me because I have had medical complications in the past and had a minor accident this spring that impeded my recovery. This brace will assist me in becoming more mobile and developing strength and stamina so that I can take care of myself and my family.

I have known Zoe for six weeks during my internship at Heartland Alliance in their Refugee and Immigrant Community Services division. While I have been interning with her for a short period of time, she has been receiving services from Heartland since her arrival to the United States seven months ago. Heartland provides general case management services, employment services, medical case management, English classes, and mental health services. Zoe has expressed a desire to improve her quality of health both physically and mentally and Heartland has been working with her to achieve her goals. My role has been to visit Zoe and provide her with emotional support and advocacy where needed. It would be helpful for Zoe and her family if she were able to receive assistance in paying for this necessary medical brace.
