A Thank-You and Update from Madeline! Sep 10, 2018
Madeline's validator Mackenzie has shared this touching update from Madeline to her supporters. Madeline says:
"Let me begin by saying, I am ecstatic that I have reached my goal and earned money to purchase a laptop! I am so excited to continue pursuing my goals of becoming a Certified Recovery Support Specialist. I am currently taking additional courses and can't wait to see how this laptop will enhance my learning."
"I would like to thank Benevolent and all of its supporters for helping me turn lemons into lemonade. Please know that you are truly making a difference in my life, as well as the lives of those I will connect with during my career as a CRSS."
Overview
I am a 58-year-old widow. After a twenty two year marriage, I lost my husband and best friend to cancer which led to the darkest moments of my life, a deep depression, and substance abuse. Last year I found stability through a women's treatment center and Inspiration Kitchens' food service training program, both of which led to me regaining my passion for life and the compassion to help others.
My goals are to become a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) where I can serve as an advocate for people struggling with mental illness and substance abuse. I hope to empower others to discover their own strengths and motivate them towards path of self-sufficiency. Through peer-to-peer support, I will infuse hope into others through modeling what I have learned on my recovery journey.
I need a laptop with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint so I am able to study, write papers, complete online webinar courses, and compile resources while I working to become a CRSS. A laptop would give me complete access to all my CRSS materials without having to consistently visit the library.
Meeting this need will help me model positive recovery behavior through interactive PowerPoints, resource lists, and supportive work tools. With my personal laptop, I'll be able to maintain confidential information and assist my peers in developing their own Wellness Recovery Action Plans.
I've learned how to make lemonade out of lemons and I'm excited to now help others turn sour situations into sweet success.

I have known Madeline since I started working at Inspiration Corporation in June 2017. At the time I met her, she was a recent graduate of our food service training program who had just begun working at a popular health food store. It has been a beautiful journey to see Madeline continually reach her goals and inspire others around her. I was so excited when Madeline shared with me that she wanted to undertake another goal of becoming a Certified Recovery Support Specialist so she can help others overcome similar struggles she has faced. Madeline already has the empathy, open heart, and positive outlook on life to succeed in this role; however a laptop will provide her with the physical tools to meet this new career goal.
