Ruth

Ruth from Eldoret, Kenya

With just $200 I can buy everything I need to expand my farm.

My husband and I support ourselves with the corn and beans we grow. With fertilizer, equipment, and more seeds we can maximize our crop.

Thank you! Jun 29, 2021

I thank you for your giving. For me my children my grandchildren. We will use farming to earn money for the children to have food and uniforms. Thank you so much.

Overview

I am a 61 year old woman living in Kenya with my husband on our 1.5 acre plot of land. We have two children, aged 30 and 37, and 4 grandchildren. I lived with obstetric fistula for years until I heard about a surgeon who could help me. Now that I am healthy, I can provide for my family better.

My goal is to work on my land to help support my grandchildren. I have just completed a farming skills training through an organization called Beyond Fistula. My husband and I earn money by selling the corn and beans we grow, but we do not have the supplies we need to grow as much as the land can support.

I need funds (about $200) to buy seeds, fertilizer, manure, bags, and buckets.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to use the land to its full potential to grow corn and beans to eat and have enough left over to sell to help pay my grandchildren’s school fees.

Thank you for helping Ruth fund this need.

I am the founder of Beyond Fistula, a non profit that assists obstetric fistula survivors (women with severe childbirth injury) after they have had surgical repair. We offer business and farm skills training to help these women learn skills that will allow them support themselves and their families. Ruth is a strong woman with a supportive husband. She is motivated to use her new farming skills to make better use of her land and to sell the excess in order to support her grandchildren's education.
