Syprine from Eldoret, Kenya

I'm the sole breadwinner in my family; help me find better work as a craftswoman.

I'm healthy for the first time in 30 years. I can begin crafting traditional Kiondo bags and raise money for food and children's school fees.

I am a 65 year old fistula survivor. In 1992 I had surgery to remove my uterus and the surgery caused a fistula. My husband didn't love me once I had the fistula, so he married another woman without a fistula. I am raising the cowife's child and my sister's child. My husband does not work because he is blind.

I had three surgeries this year for fistula repair and now I am dry. I learned to weave Kiondo bags in a workshop with an organization called Beyond Fistula. My goals are to sell the bags to earn money for the children to provide us with food and for their school fees.

I need $250 to buy the materials for the Kiondo bags. They are made from the sisal plant and it is sustainable.

Meeting this need will help me because I am the only breadwinner for my family. We need money for food and for the children's school fees. When I can make the bags I can provide for everyone.

Validated by Debra from Beyond Fistula (What does this mean?)

I met Syprine when she completed our Kiondo bag weaving workshop. She always has a smile on her face and was very eager to learn. Syprine is thrilled to have a skill that she can monetize by starting a small business. She carries the weight of providing for her whole family, and sees her new business as the path to financial stability. I have every faith that she will be successful. Her joyful spirit speaks for itself. And Beyond Fistula will be helping her as she gets on her feet.
