Margarita from Chicago, IL

I'm a proud adoptive mother and my family needs help buying a furnace for Chicago's brutal winter

My goal is to raise our adopted son in the best home possible: one that is safe and warm. I need help with half the cost of a furnace for our home.

Thank you!!!! I am so happy that Margarita's need was funded! Every few days I have been checking the site to see if she was close to receiving this donation. This financial help will lift a bit of financial pressure off a well-deserving family. A huge THANK YOU to all who donated!

My need and situation

I need help in purchasing a furnace for our home. This includes half of the amount needed to purchase a furnace.

Meeting this need will help me because we cannot afford a furnace. We do not know what to do at this point since the winter is coming. My goal is to raise our adopted son in the best home possible: safe and warm and for my son to be taken care of in the best possible way. And for us to catch up on the finances since we have had so many unexpected financial obligations.

Though it was challenging to start all over raising a young child and we have had a lot of financial difficulties since then, we would never do it differently. We love him like our own and our life would never be the same without him. I love my family more than anything.

Our current situation is that we had to move back to Chicago from Ohio unexpectedly. The money we were saving to buy a new furnace was unexpectedly needed because we had to pay some unknown taxes for our home. My husband did not find a job here in Chicago for 8 months so we were living off of our savings.

I'm from Chicago originally. I live now in Humboldt Park with my husband and 3 children. I'm most proud of family. My husband and I have been married 25 years. I have 2 daughters; one is in the 3rd year of college and she also works as waitress. One is studying cosmetology in junior college. She will graduate in December and she is also working. My oldest son lives on his own and is a registered nurse. And my oldest daughter lives on her own and is a chef downtown. My youngest child - who I adopted - is now in kindergarten. I'm happiest when I see my kids and family happy.

Something interesting about me is that I like to sing and dance.

Validated by Annie from Erie Elementary Charter School (What does this mean?)

I met Margarita when she registered her son to start as a kindergartener at Erie Charter School. We now have gotten to know each other well and I am so amazed at what her and her husband have accomplished with their grown children and now how they are starting all over with their new adopted son is admirable.

I think meeting this need is important because this is a very hardworking family that has come up against some recent financial challenges. They absolutely need a new furnace for their home but cannot come up with the amount needed to purchase one.

This family is a pleasure to know and would not usually ask for help. They have worked hard at raising all of their children who are now grown but have started all over because they knew they had to rescue the boy they have now adopted. They have sacrificed so much already and would be so appreciative of this unexpected help.
