Wayne from Detroit, MI

Determined to graduate by Spring 2015. I need textbooks and software to get me there

After taking some time off from school to work at a non-profit, I'm finally returning to school to finish my credits and receive my bachelors.

Overview

I am a senior in college. After taking some time off from school to work at a non-profit, I finally took the step and saved up enough to return and complete the last few credits for a Bachelors. I am currently taking a summer class and will be taking on additional classes in the Fall.

My goal is to complete my last year in college by Spring 2015. Working in the non-profit field provided me many learning experiences that will allow my degree to go further. After completing school I anticipate that I will advance within the current field that I am working in. Within two years of graduation, I plan on attending graduate school to obtain an advanced degree.

I need textbooks and supplies for school. Many of my expenses have been covered out-of-pocket, including some tuition and a much needed laptop. The remaining expenses I have are smaller but necessary to helping me finish my education. I need funding for textbooks, textbook rentals, and Microsoft Office.

Meeting this need will help me because it will assist me in completing my degree with all the necessary tools I need to succeed. There are many barriers students face living in Detroit - a city where nearly 88% of the residents have not attained a college degree and the university I attend only graduates 7% of their African American students. With support from you, I intend to to beat these statistics and work towards improving these numbers for future generations.

I have known Wayne for the past three years, we work in different capacities for the same non-profit. Wayne is a dedicated worker and often spends countless hours off the clock making sure that community and neighborhoods have what they need to progress. Education is my passion so when Wayne came to me for advice in how to get back on track with school I was more than happy to help him. He has definitely persevered through difficult circumstances to get back on track and finance his education but can use some help pushing forward with the expenses toward this next semester. He is very close to finishing his degree and this help from Benevolent would definitely give him the finances he needs to get one step closer to his degree. I know he would be so appreciative of the help and I would love to see him continue to move forward without worrying about finances.
