Thanks From Jermaine Dec 8, 2014

Thanks a lot for the work gear! I have been intensively job searching and now I feel a lot more confident in my ability to get a job. I have graduated from the JARC CNC program and I continue to work with the employment services staff to get a job.

Overview

I'm a father of 2 trying to better myself and be responsible so that people around me can see that change is possible and that a person shouldn't be limited by their zip code. My girlfriend is a housekeeper and is currently the sole provider for our family. We struggle everyday to provide basic necessities for our children.

My goal is to find a stable job as a CNC operator so that I can help provide for my family. I grew up in the housing projects in Bronzeville and didn't have many opportunities to find jobs that pay more than minimum wage. I got my GED and I am currently studying at the Jane Addams Resource Corporation in the CNC Fast Track Program. Having my GED and technical training will finally allow me to move beyond my lack of opportunity and give me the chance to make a living wage.

I need money for a drivers education course, steel toe boots, and safety glasses. Many manufacturing companies are located out in the suburbs and are only accessible by driving. I would be able to apply to quite a few more opportunities with a drivers license. Also, since most manufacturing employers require steel toe boots to even interview, it would really help me find a job.

These items are extremely important to me because they could help me find work, allow me to efficiently perform the job, and enable me to provide for my family.

I have been working with Jermaine since February. He started out in our bridge program to improve his math skills and he did extremely well. Due to his performance in our bridge program, I quickly accepted him into our CNC Fast Track program. He has really improved his technical skills and soft skills and is ready to begin applying for jobs in his field. A drivers license would open up a number of jobs to him that are currently unavailable due to lack of public transit. Steel toed boots would help him arrive to those interviews prepared. This little bit of help would really go a long way.
