Claire
My job title is Advocate and Housing Intern. I have been in this position since August 2012, when I joined as an Employment Intern.
My work involves meeting with low-income individuals and assisting them with their individualized goal plans. This means assisting them in a wide range of ways, not limited to employment and job-readiness, searching for affordable housing, screening and applying for public benefits and providing general support.
What I like about my job is seeing clients succeed and reaching their goals. LIFT uses a holistic and strength based approach to working with clients, clients are able to decide what goals they want to work on and how they want to achieve them. Seeing clients receive eye glasses, getting a job interview, or getting an apartment is definitely the best part of my job.
LIFT does not provide any financial support, we often refer out to different resourses based in Chicago. It is important that our clients get the resources they need to succeed in their goals. I have been with LIFT for a little under a year and have been working with regular clients often.

With a good pair of shoes, I can walk to the Dr. and do workouts that rebuild my health. Once I'm healthy, I can work as a court docket clerk again. More
