My job title is Development Director. My work involves raising funds for a human service nonprofit in Alameda County, California, that helps people overcome homelessness and poverty. Fundraising is hard but incredibly rewarding when you meet and hear stories from people who have gotten off the streets and into their own homes.
What I like about my job is working for an organization that helps the poorest people in our community, people with nowhere else to turn for help. I like connecting donors and funders who want to help others with people in our programs who need help.
It is very, very hard to find affordable housing in our community when you have a low or fixed income. And finding something affordable is only the FIRST hurdle - then you need first/last month's rent, security deposit, help moving in, and furniture and housewares to have a livable home. Donors help BOSS clients overcome all these hurdles and start life in their own home!
