I am the Infant Mental Health and Early Childhood Therapist at Starfish.
My work involves conducting home-based mental health therapy for pregnant women and children up to age six. I address various mental health and social/emotional concerns for the entire family unit in two hour sessions every week. I often work on parent/child attachement, behavioral conerns, parenting needs, developmental concerns, and case management or resources for the family.
What I like about my job is working with families and children! Every family is very different and I love seeing them explore new tools to make their relationships stronger, thus creating happier and healthier interactions. Working with young families and children is very rewarding because I am able to see the impact that early intervention services can have on this population. I am so happy to go to work everyday and feel very lucky to work with families that allow me to enter their homes and the very personal and private parts of their lives.
I have worked in social services focused on early childhood for nearly five years. I have been able to see how important prevention and early intervention services are to communities that face so many challanges. Working with low-income families in the metro-Detroit area has proivided me with a new persepective of the challanges many parents face and the barriers they are working to overcome in order to be successful. Sometimes it is the smallest needs that can have a huge impact on a person's peace of mind and really brighten their spirit.
