Joseph from Chicago, IL

I'm overcoming homelessness. Furnishing my new apartment will help me rebuild.

After being hospitalized for 3 years, I'm moving into my own place! Basic furniture will help me create a home and start anew.

My need and situation

I am a 58-year-old man with disabilities who became homeless five and a half years ago after an injury. I was hospitalized for 3 years where I received intensive chemo and infusions, and then was in outpatient therapy for two. I'm happy to say that I'm now healthy and will be getting my own apartment in October!

Now that I am healthy, I am ready to be independent and live on my own. I've worked hard to secure housing for the fall and need to furnish my new apartment.

I need to furniture to furnish my new apartment. When I was evicted from my home after my injury, I was not able to keep any of my possessions and am starting completely from scratch. I need help getting bigger items like a couch and a bed, but also little things like a salt shaker.

Meeting this need will help me create a home and start anew. Since I won't have to worry about securing enough funds for everyday necessities, I can devote my energy to giving back to the homeless community.
