Update on Thomas's progress at JARC! Nov 24, 2014

Thomas is doing well in the CNC Fast Track Training Program. He is currently writing the program for his aluminum NIMS. He has completed his NIMS Measurement Credential, OSHA 10 certificate, and his forklift certification. Thomas has also been working with the JARC employment services team. He has completed his resume, cover letter, follow-up thank you letter and several mock interviews. Thomas also completed a technical skills mock interview that includes measurement, a mathematics test, and blue print reading. He did very well on the technical skills mock interview. He is looking forward to starting work in the CNC field.

My need and situation

About 5 years ago, my life was spinning out of control. I ended up being convicted of a felony and served 3 years in jail. The time I spent in jail really changed my life and I know which direction I need to go in now. I am thankful because my life now has meaning and purpose.

After being released from prison, I knew I needed to change things. I went back to school and got my reading and math scores up. Eventually, I raised my scores high enough to get into the CNC Fast Track Program at Jane Addams. I am on track to become a CNC Machinist because I want to buy a house to bring my family together.

I know in order to buy a house, I need a steady career path. I need a metrology kit and steel toe boots in order to interview and find employment in the field I am studying.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to take care of others, spend time with my nieces and nephews, and teach things to my family that I have learned along the way. Having a home that a family and friends can come together in to create a positive atmosphere is so important.

I have known Thomas for over a year and a half now. He started in our tutoring program to improve his math skills, moved into our bridge program, and is now in the CNC Fast Track program. I cannot speak highly enough about Thomas. He is kind, dependable, motivated, and really wants a change in his life. He is about halfway through our program and really needs help to get his boots and measuring kit. I am confident that Thomas will be able to get past his background and move in the right direction.
