Overview
I am a 32-year-old father with partial custody of my beautiful 3-year-old son. I am constantly working on building a strong and healthy relationship with my son and creating a good life for him.
My immediate goal is to enroll in the Substance Abuse program at Merritt College. I want to focus on working with at-risk youth and get my degree in counseling. With a degree, I hope to help youth in my community strive towards a healthy and balanced life and support my family with a productive and stable career.
I would be very grateful for support in obtaining a laptop to assist me with my educational goals. Currently, I am recovering from spine surgery and cannot attend classes on campus. With a laptop, I can get started with online classes and use my time efficiently.
Meeting this need will help me because earning an education can propel me to a career that can dramatically improve my family's future. It will keep me busy during my surgery recovery. It will help me achieve my dream of obtaining an education and provide me with the opportunity to create the life I have imagined for my son.

I have known Chris through the Albany program here at BFHP. Chris has been in the program for about 10 months. Chris was recently housed in a shared housing unit in Oakland. Chris has continuously displayed the desire to become a better man, father, friend and housemate. He has let go of old behaviors, choosing to communicate his feelings and learn from them. Chris is going to be an outstanding counselor and will bring with him a wealth of experience and empathy. It is my hope that Chris realizes his full potential and educational goals.
