I am so grateful for your giving. We have never met but you are helping me and my child. For so long I was in pain and I did not know what was wrong. Now I am dry and ready to use my land to earn money to support my child. God bless you for the good heart.
Overview
My name is Sheila and I am a 24 year old mother of a four-year-old and I am a fistula survivor. The labor with my child in 2014 was blocked and prolonged and very painful. When I finally gave birth, I found that I had a fistula and I had a lot of pain. For four years I raised my child while I had fistula. I didn’t know what was wrong. This year I learned that I had a fistula, and I had surgery to fix it. Now I am dry and healed - I am not in pain anymore and I am so grateful. Now that I am healthy, I want to farm on my land. I own 2 acres of land, 5 cows, and 6 goats.
My goal is to have a successful farm that provides for me and my child and my future children.
I need funds ($200) to buy fertilizer and supplies for farming - sugar, rice, and other crops. Right now my crops are not growing well because I don’t have any fertilizer and the ground isn’t fertile enough.
Meeting this need will help me provide for my family, be financially independent from anyone, and build a stable childhood for my kids. I am grateful to be healed from my fistula and now I am ready to make my farm successful with a little help to start.

Sheila is a strong and determined young woman. She lived for 4 years with a fistula and endured a great deal of social isolation due to the odor and stigma of having a fistula. Now that she is repaired and no longer leaking, she feels empowered to be a stronger woman. She recently completed a farm skills training seminar through our organization, Beyond Fistula. With her new skills, she feels more prepared to work the land and produce a greater bounty of crops. She has a business plan to grow her crop yield and sell the excess in the market to support her child and herself. Beyond Fistula will be following up with her and supporting her.
