Courtney from Chicago, IL

I've been in an Office Careers program but I can't afford the bus pass anymore.

I've been learning to use software in an office setting with classes and interning at the CFCL. A few months' bus fare will let me finish my program!

Overview

I am about to be 27-years-old, I began the Office Careers training at the Center for Changing Lives because I have been working with Microsoft Office and Google products since I was a teenager, and I wanted to find a way to use those skills to begin a career. I have been journaling with Google and Microsoft products for some time, and I am excited to use them in this new capacity!

My goals are to begin a career in an office setting. In my time working with the center for Changing Lives, I have been volunteering at the front desk and participating in an internship. From this experience I have become more social, by speaking to people on the phone and in the office, and I am really excited to continue to grow these skills!

I need bus passes to complete the last couple months of the program. Up until this point I was able to figure transportation out, but not being employed for that last few months I have really had to stretch to make this work.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to complete my internship. I will gain the experience, knowledge, and certifications to gain a full-time job. After this I will be able to support myself, and hopefully find a bigger apartment that is pet friendly so i can have a dog again!

I have been working with Courtney since the fall of 2018. Since then she has been dedicated to the program with almost perfect attendance. I know that meeting this need would mean a great deal to her because she would be able to finish the program, and move forward to the next step in her goal of finding a full-time job. She has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is today!
