Overview

I am a proud grandmother of two granddaughters (age 12) and a grandson (age 8). I've had legal guardianship of them for six years. Recently I had foot surgery which forced me to stop working and eventually lose my job. As a result,I have limited funds to purchase new clothes and the necessary school supplies needed for my grandchildren come the start of school.

A necessary foot surgery caused me to lose my job and left me with limited income to purchase school supplies and clothes for my three grandchildren. Meeting this need will allow me to focus my attention on looking for a new part-time job during my recovery period, rather than focusing my attention on getting school clothes and supplies for my grandchildren. Meeting this need will also take a lot of stress away, which is important for my health and caring for them.

Right now, my biggest challenge is ensuring that my grandchildren are comfortable and confident when they go back to school. I love them so much and want the best for them. The two girls will be staring junior high school, which is an important time for growth in a pre-teen's life. I know they will face a lot of pressures at school so I want to send them in with confidence. New clothes and school supplies will ensure they fit in and remain on the same competitive edge along with their peers.

I think of myself mostly as a responsible, caring, God fearing person.  I'm most proud of my family and the caring support they give me and for what I give them.

I've had legal guardianship of them for the past six years.  I have worked in the service and retail industry for the majority of my life, but recently lost my job due to a necessary foot surgery.  Once I recover and go through the necessary rehabilitation I plan on getting a new job so I can pick back up where I left off - providing for my family.

I have known the recipient for approximately two months. Faith has been a consumer with Starfish Family Services for several years. She is very involved in providing the best for her grandchildren and has been wonderful to work with.  I feel she has gone above and beyond to provide the best home for her grandchildren.

I think meeting this need is important because it will allow Faith to focus on her personal health and provide the children with the necessary tools to be successful in school and their daily lives. Faith will also be able to focus on herself, heal well and fast,and find a part-time job.
