Donald was so excited to receive his birth certificate in the mail! He has had some leads for jobs and has continued his search for stable housing. Having all the proper documentation together makes the process much easier! Thank you for your generosity!
Overview
I need a copy of my birth certificate. This includes the fee for the replacement birth certificate from the State of Illinois.
Meeting this need will help me because I have been actively applying for housing. All applications require specific forms of identification. I have everything I need except a birth certificate. This will help me have everything I need in order when I get off of a housing waiting list.
My goal is to find a new job so I can work toward my retirement. I want to get off the streets and into a safe apartment. I am looking forward to the time when I am in a safe apartment, have worked long enough to retire, and can spend my retirement doing my favorite thing: FISHING!
My current situation is that I've been homeless on and off for 13 years. I have been unemployed for a little over a year and a half and have struggled to find new employment.
I'm from Chicago, IL. I am currently homeless and stay near the Chicago River.
I'm most proud of my 6 year old granddaughter. I have three children - two girls and one boy - and five grandkids - three girls and two boys. I work hard and don't give up until I can get things right!
Something interesting about me is that I am a professional forklift driver. I'm happiest when it's nice outside and I'm fishing.

Each need is validated by a nonprofit that knows the person and can verify that the help is necessary. Funds flow from Benevolent to the nonprofit, which then gets them to the person in need and lets us know how it went.
Learn more »Donald has been a registered guest of the Elam Davies Social Service Center since 2011. He has continually received services over the years and most recently received a Citipak bag through a distribution the agency participated in. At his most recent appointment I helped him complete several housing applications and during our appointment he mentioned that he had everything he needed except a birth certificate.
I think meeting this need is important because Donald has been homeless for 13 years and desperately needs housing. When he gets notice that he has been selected from a housing waiting list he will be required to show a variety of documentation, including a birth certificate. Meeting this need would provide him with all the necessary requirements!
Donald is an incredibly hard worker and is determined to get back to work and off the streets. Please help him on his journey toward stable housing!
