Jen from Chicago, IL

I'm a newly housed mom of 6. We're getting back on track but my kids need warm clothes before winter

It's so important to me to support my children's education. I know that winter is coming & for them to get to school & succeed, they need winter gear!

Overview

I need coats, hats, gloves, and boots for my 4 oldest children. I was able to get coats for my youngest 2 children through a program at their school, but the older ones still don't have warm clothing.

Meeting this need will help me because I know that winter is coming, and in order for my children to get to school and succeed, they need to be warm. My children are very caring and sensitive. They have worked with me like a team to overcome these challenges, and it would mean so much to all of us to have this help.

My goal is to support my children's education so that they can become successful adults. I am doing as much as I can to provide them with stability and care, but this would help us all so much.

My current situation is that while my family was homeless, we lost most of our clothing because we could only take what we could carry. The landlord put all of our stuff on the street. I have a job, but it pays very little. I am not receiving child support, and I barely make enough money to afford housing and food.

With so many children, I am struggling to make ends meet, but I have much hope. We were recently homeless for a period of time. We were able to find housing but we weren't able to store the clothing we had before we lost our old home.

I'm from Chicago, IL and live in Evanston. I have 6 children, all extremely bright and creative. I have 3 boys and 3 girls. Their ages are 5, 7, 14 year old twins, 16 and 18.

I'm happiest when my kids are happy and I'm most proud of my work with the community.

Something interesting about me is I like to play the djembe.

I met Jen about 3 months ago. The family was homeless and in need of services. Jen mobilized quickly and was able to find new permanent housing. Jen and her 6 children, however, had to leave behind clothing, etc. They had no where to store the families belongings while homeless.

Jen's kids are great. They are doing very well in school. Jen is getting them involved in after school programs. Her 6 kids do not have winter coats, gloves, hats, etc. They have to wait for the bus to take them to school. It is already cold in Chicago. Winter is coming.
