Update from Charnita - Validator Feb 4, 2014
I am happy to report that CeeCee was able to use the funds she received from Benevolent to began a new life! CeeCee first came to COTS' homeless shelter and was eventually accepted into one of our housing programs designed to assist her with becoming self sufficient so she can stand on her own. Since CeeCee posted her need on the Benevolent website, quite a bit has changed. She went from needing a bed and a laptop to being in need of a security deposit to take advantage of a Housing Choice Voucher that she was offered last month. This voucher offers subsidized housing choices in the Detroit area.
Thankfully the gracious donors from Benevolent made it happen for her. While not orginally planned for this use, CeeCee was able to secure a new apartment and has moved on...becoming even more independent and self sufficient. This is the whole purpose of COTS' housing program and CeeCee reached the end with success. She is healing well and on her way to achieving her next goal of completing her GED. She was overwhelmed with joy and so grateful for this wonderful new start.

Overview
I'm from Memphis and I live in Detroit. I have a son that's grown that I love very much. I'm happiest when I feel secure in knowing that my son is okay. Something interesting about me is I don't give up when things get hard. I'm most proud of things I complete even when it is difficult.
My goal is to become a chef one day, but I need a GED to get me to the next step which is to enroll in culinary school.
As I prepare for my surgery, I am also taking GED classes. Having a laptop will allow me to continue studying for the upcoming test while on bed rest.
I need a laptop and a bed. This includes a laptop and Microsoft Office software and a full size bed.
My current situation is that I am about to have surgery for a medical condition and will be on bed rest during recovery. I, however, don't have a bed and have been sleeping on my couch.
Meeting this need will allow me the proper setting to heal well and fast so I can move on to the next phase of my life - taking the GED test, passing, and enrolling in culinary classes.

Each need is validated by a nonprofit that knows the person and can verify that the help is necessary. Funds flow from Benevolent to the nonprofit, which then gets them to the person in need and lets us know how it went.
Learn more »We met when I became employed with COTS in April of this year. As part of the program we meet twice a month for case management sessions.
I think meeting this need is important because CeCe is a motivated person. She is constantly looking for work and up until her medical situation she was out and about almost daily trying to find a job. This laptop will allow her to stay connected to employment opportunities.
