Overview
I need transportation funds while I complete my job search. This includes a clipper card with funds that can be used on BART, AC Transit, and other agencies. Meeting this need will help me because it will allow me to get back to work, leave the shelter and get back with my family.
My current situation is that I lost my job when my friend's business lost the lease of the building we were working out of. I lived in my car for a while and am now staying in a shelter. The agency's employment counselor has been helping me set up interviews, but I need help with transportation to get to my interviews, and to help me get to the first couple of weeks of work.
My goal is to become employed in a warehouse or shipping facility. Most of these jobs are far from Berkeley and I need funds to get to these places on public transit.
I'm from Madras, Oregon. I live Berkeley, California. Something interesting about me is that I have lived in over 20 cities. I'm happiest when I am working. I'm most proud of my grown son.
I am working very hard to get back on my feet so I can reunite with my wife and son.

We met when Rick came to the homeless shelter where I work. Rick has been very active in his struggle to get out of the shelter, and has been working with myself and our other staff very regularly.
I think meeting this need is important because will allow Rick to have much more freedom to be active in his job search. He will be able to follow up on every lead instead of limiting himself based on how much money he can scrape together each day.
Rick has been working very hard to get back to work, and he has been working for most of his adult life. He does have a learning disability, so it can be hard for him to be successful if he has too many issues that are all up in the air at the same time. If he could not have to worry about transportation for a few months and just focus on making job interviews, I believe that he will be successful.
