Peter from Chicago, IL

I'm a veteran returning to the workforce and need training to enter the hospitality industry!

Recently, the business I was working for closed. I want to transition to the hospitality industry but need my BASSET certification to be marketable.

I just finished watching Peter's segment on HLN and in just a few short minutes his need was funded. Incredible! Thank you so much. By funding this need you are giving someone the opportunity for a new career and a second chance.

Overview

I need tuition for a hospitality training course. This includes the cost for the tuition and certification fees.

Meeting this need will help me because I would really like to advance my career opportunities and think that becoming trained and certified in the hospitality industry will open a lot of doors. Chicago has a lot of opportunity for work with the different street and neighborhood festivals. If I am able to take this course and become BASSET certified I'll be eligible to apply for work.

My goal is to become employed again. I am looking to start a new career in the food and hospitality industry and think that taking a training course will make me more marketable. Because I recently lost my job I am unable to afford the tuition.

My current situation is I recently lost my job because the business I was working for is about to close. Because I have a criminal background I have had difficulty finding work and think that a job in the hospitality industry would be a good next step!

I'm from Chicago, IL.

Something interesting about me is that I can speak 3 languages fluently. I'm most proud of my military service and I'm happiest when I'm spending time with loved ones.

I met Peter when his friend, who was receiving services at the time, brought him into the agency. He expressed interest in case management services and help with housing. We were able to get him into a homeless shelter program. During this time, he also secured a full-time employment position and has been connected to a rapid rehousing program. For the last four months he has also volunteered at our soup kitchen.

I think meeting this need is important because after moving into his new apartment he learned that the business he was working for was going to be closing and therefore he lost his new job. Peter has been looking for temporary work, but would really like to get into the hospitality industry as he loves to work with people and loves to cook! Peter would really like to attend a training program so he can be a more marketable candidate. Getting the funding to pay for his training tuition would be the next step in a new career for Peter.
