Overview

I am a 26-year-old Afghan Refugee who came to the US in 2021 after the fall of Afghanistan. I had a tailoring business back in Afghanistan, but after the fall, I had to leave everything and come here to have a safer life.

My goal is to restart my tailoring business here and expand it by learning new skills according to the US tailoring style to support my family financially. I can't speak English fluently but I am still learning. I face difficulty working in other jobs so I believe tailoring wouldn't require too much communication.

I need help to get the necessary tools and equipment to start my dream of establishing a tailoring business here in the US. I need to get a sewing machine which costs about $1000 but I can't afford it.

Meeting this need will help me because getting the necessary tools is the only barrier for me to start my tailoring business and support my family financially.

I have known Tawos Amokhan through the Afghan Coalition. He was a new arrival who couldn't speak English and needed resources. While helping him, he shared that he was a tailor so, we added him to our Microenterprise Program/Sewing Circle. Since we are a non-profit organization, we don't have a budget to support him in establishing his business. He is always passionate about restarting his career in his desired field, and it would be great to see him have his own business.
