Dale from Detroit, MI

I'm an apprentice. I need a bed to help alleviate the pain that keeps me from working

A bed, box spring and frame will get me off the pallet I am currently sleeping on and alleviate back pain so I can function at my apprenticeship.

Dale is loving his new mattress! Jun 11, 2014

Dale was so very happy and appreciative to receive a new mattress set. He is so thankful to be off of his pallet on the floor. Benevolent and the donors who supported Dale are a Godsend!

Overview

I am currently serving as an apprentice at my brother's security company. I hope to one day be able to work in the business full-time, but before that can happen I need to improve my health condition...which is my number one goal right now.

Waking up and not being able to move or function as needed for work and daily life creates problems all the way around. If this need is met I will be able to sleep well at night since I will not have to sleep on a pallet on the floor. It will also mean I will not have to experience the pain that I do struggling to get up off of the floor in the morning.

A year ago I was homeless. Since then I have been accepted into the COTS housing program and housed in a lovely apartment. COTS was able to furnish my unit but soon after I experienced a bed bug infestation. As a result, I had to get rid of my bed. I am an older man and I have many health challenges, including serious back problems. Not having a bed to lay on at time has really taken a toll on my body, which at times restricts my mobility and ability to work.

Hi my name is Dale and I'm from Detroit. I love playing chess and watching sports and am most happiest when I am with my family. Another source of my happiness comes from my niece and nephew. They make me so proud.

I met Dale when he was homeless and applying for housing through COTS' Shelter Plus Care Program. I was assigned as his case planner to assist with housing and supportive services. Since entering the program Dale has been very cooperative with program guidelines. He has worked dilgently to become independent and self sufficient, and even goes out of his way to help his neighbors and other program recipients when needed. He's a very pleasant individual to be around.

Meeting this need is important because Dale is an older gentleman who suffers from a debilitating disease that causes him severe back pain. Getting him off the floor would provide much relief to his symptoms and allow him to be as active as possible at his apprenticeship and in his daily life.
