Overview
I am a 58 year old artist. I create comic books and other works of art through the use of gel pens/markers/pencils and other art materials. My art has been featured in galleries in Chicago and is my main source of income to maintain stable housing. I used to live on the street for many years but have received affordable housing and maintained it for the past 2 years.
My goals are to continue my art work and have my work shared with the Chicago community. Art brings me great joy and keeps me focused on bettering myself in life. I hope to keep making books and have them sold in galleries throughout the city.
I need art supplies to finish my newest book and future books as well. This includes the many different types of colored pens, pencils, and markers needed to finish an entire comic book.
Meeting this need will help me because my art work is my main source of income. If I can save money on these needed art supplies, then I will be able to maintain my housing (SRO) this year and continue my true passion. I can pay my rent for the immediate future if I don't have to buy all my new art supplies. Once I finish this book, I'll then have the income needed to pay future rent and maintain my housing!

I have worked with Steve for over 3 years now. When I first met Steve, he was living on the street and hesitant to receive help from a case manager here at the center. Over time though, Steve joined our year long case management program and achieved numerous goals through the program. Steve obtained id's, got connected to benefits, attended group support sessions, and even obtained housing. Currently, I meet with Steve once a week to check in and work on any goals he has.
