Rachel from Detroit, MI

Focused on education while expecting my 1st child. Car repairs will keep me on track.

It is my priority to enroll in college & finish my education so I can provide for my child & be the best possible mother!

Overview

Hi, my name is Rachel and I am 20 years old. As a teen, I had to provide for my family and then I became homeless in 2013 and was forced to move into the shelter after losing my job and being evicted from my mother's apartment.

My goal is to become a registered nurse. I'm in the process of signing up to finish school and build up my GPA and then I want to enroll in a community college. My goal is to then attend the University of Georgia. One of the most important things I want to remember through my journey is to remember why I'm doing this and all of the who helped me get through life during the lowest points and struggles.

I need helping repairing my car.

Meeting this need will help me move forward in so many ways. Having reliable transportation will allow me to get back and forth to school and work safely without any interferences and set-backs. It will also allow me to stay focused on my studies so that I can achieve my goals and provide for my expected child. The most important thing in my life right now is to go back to school so that I can be the best possible mother. I know that once I get funded, I can work towards that!

I know Rachel through The Empowerment Plan. Rachel has been working at The Empowerment Plan for 6 months and continues to improve both as a seamstress and as an strong, independent woman. Rachel is extremely determined and is working towards finishing school so that she can provide for her child. I think that meeting this need is extremely important because it will help Rachel succeed and thrive in life.
