Catherine from Eldoret, Kenya

I've learned business skills; now I want to start a farm to feed my family.

Beyond Fistula taught me skills I can use; now I want to lease land to farm & buy a cow. From there, I'll be able to earn income and support my boys.

Overview

My name is Catherine and I am a 50 year old single mother of two boys ages 13 and 2. The birth of my second son was difficult and long and when it was finally over I discovered I had a fistula. I felt ashamed and I was in pain. My husband left me due to the fistula. Earlier this year I had surgery to repair my fistula and now I am dry and healed.

My goals are to lease a plot of land and farm on it. I also want to buy a cow.

I need funds ($260) to lease the land and buy a cow. I have learned farming and business skills from an organization called Beyond Fistula.

Meeting this need will help me because I have the farming skills and the motivation to earn income, I just need money to start making income for myself and my sons. Once this need is met I will be able to earn enough to afford food for us and school fees for my children.

Thank you for helping Catherine fund this need.

Catherine is a fistula survivor and a single mom. She, like many other obstetric fistula survivors, has been abandoned by her husband. She initially did not have any business or farm skills and has now completed our training program. She is eager to use her new farming skills to lease land and begin growing crops to feed her children and to sell the excess crops. She is also interested in purchasing a cow to use and sell its milk. The income from the farming and the cow's milk will help her to support herself and her children. Beyond Fistula will be supporting her and following up with her to help ensure her success.
