Joy from Detroit, MI

I'm free of cancer and an abusive relationship. A car will keep me moving towards better days.

$700 will go a long way in helping me purchase a used car. I will head back to work after my leave and can save the additional $300 to reach my goal.

Update and Thank You from Joy Feb 11, 2014

In the process of raising funds for Joy's need, Joy was faced with a housing challenge that exceeds her vehicle need at this time.  She sent the following "Thank You" and update to all her donors:

I would like to thank all of the people who donated to me and my family. At this time I have to use the donations for a new place to live due to my current circumstances. Now that this need has been met there will be less stress in my life. Once again thank you for all that you have done.

Overview

I need a vehicle to get me to work and allow me to care for my family. Meeting this need will help me because it will allow me to navigate the city more efficiently since Detroit's public transit system is not reliable. Having a car available when needed will provide me with a sense of security. Having to rely on people for transportation is very aggravating. My goal is to continue working and going to school. A car will allow me to get to and from on time, which will ensure I keep my job and continue my education and continue to provide for my family.

When I was young I was diagnosed with cancer. This experience has made me cherish life and the things that most people take for granted. For this reason, I am starting over after being in a very bad relationship and I need a car to care for my family.

My last car died shortly after spending a lot of money to get it repaired by what turned out to be a shady auto repair shop. Since then I have been carpooling with friends but with a new baby on the way, this cannot go on.

I am due any day now and need reliable transportation when I return home. I know someone who is offering to sell their car for $1000.  So, $700 will go a long way in helping me make that purchase.  After my leave ends I will head back to work and can save the additional $300 to reach my goal.

I am a cancer survivor and l live ever day like it's my last with joy and happiness.

I'm from Detroit and I live in Clinton Township.

I'm happiest when I'm with my kids and I'm most proud of accomplishing my goals. Something interesting about me is that I like to cook a lot.

I met Joy when she came to Matrix Human Services for support and guidance. I think meeting this need is important because it will allow her to become stable as well as maintain her doctor appointments and ability to transport her children to and from school.
