Tonya from Chicago, IL

Moving into stable housing & towards permanent work! I need basic necessities.

My goal is to secure a permanent position with Chicago's transportation company! To build momentum and continue forward, I need to stabilize my home.

Overview

I am an apprentice for Chicago's transportation company. I work full-time to make sure that the buses that people ride in Chicago are looking great and clean! I am a community member of The Cara Program who helped me get into this job. I just got my first apartment after being a resident in a supportive living situation.

My goals are to move forward from a temporary to a permanent position with this company. Right now I am making minimum wage and am looking forward to the possibilities and benefits that come with a permanent job for this company.

I just moved so I could use help with getting some basics. These basics would be: sheets and pillows for my bedroom, towels for my bathroom, and pots and pans and dishware for my kitchen. Anything will help me!

Meeting this need will help me because I used my savings to help me with getting my own place (my two years was almost up and I needed to secure my own apartment), so I could use any help to stabilize in my home.

I have known Tonya since she came to Cara in 2013. She is a hard worker and has been doing all she can to move up and advance at her jobs. She frequently gets the highest scores available on quality check reviews and takes pride in her position. She was required to find a new home as her time in a recovery living situation came to a close; she took on that task and found a new place, but unfortunately used most of her savings. Any help you can give will help her settle in to her new place with the necessities!

I started at Cara as an Individual Development Specialist, which is a lot like a job coach, and I now manage the retention team that makes sure our students don't just get the job, but they stay in it for a full year. I fell in love with… Read more
