This has been a great experience to follow Victor during this time. He has made every effort to be part of North Branch Works. Victor has been an active participant in training, showing up everyday to get the skills that he needs to prepare for his excel certification training. He also participated with our volunteer group "LEEDers for Training". He gave of his time to work at a booth we rented for the Green Festival. He is very excited about taking his test because this will allow him to be more marketable and he will be able to get the clothes he needs for interviews. Thank you so much for your help.

Overview

My goal is to be a computer programmer. With three years of college, having this need met will propel me into finishing my education and into a career.

I know that the solution is completing my training on computers so I can have a career and then support my family. Meeting this need will help me by giving me a base and a foundation to confidently complete the training for my career and get hired. Specifically I need to take advanced training courses in Microsoft, so I need help paying for that. To travel to the training center I need a transportation pass and then when I get job interviews, I need business-type clothes so I can present my best effort for an interview.

In the past I've worked at jobs including Italian Fiesta Pizzeria. My current situation is that being an unemployed father of three, it becomes difficult at times at both providing for my children with the rent and food, while at the same time acquiring the necessary tools to further my own advancement towards a career. Because at present, the vast majority of my earnings go on rent alone, I struggle with the costs of simply traveling from home to my training location. Right now, my biggest challenge is juggling the rent and other bills and also having the funds necessary to complete my training and seek employment. I think of myself mostly as a father who loves his children. I have two boys and a girl that mean the world to me. I also see my self as a hard worker who is diligent at what I set my mind to do. I'm most proud of my kids. They are my joy and the reason I constantly strive to better myself and the world around me. Something interesting about me is that I love to draw.

Seeing as at present, the vast majority of my earnings go to rent alone, I struggle with simply traveling from place to place as needed. I want to improve my job situation by taking more training, but I don't have the necessary money.

I have known Victor for about a month and a half. I met him when he came to North Branch Works to go through the intake process to be considered for our Computer Skills Job Readiness Training.

I think his need is important because he has come so far already and he is really focused on completing his training - his goal is to start a new career in computer technology. Additionally his success in meeting his goal would encourage other trainees to stay the course and continue to take advantage of training and courses North Branch offers for career development.

Victor is very courageous and confident, but also humble. Meeting this need will move Victor's life forward by allowing him to obtain the necessary skills he needs to move out of unemployment, start a career and provide for his family.
