Alma from San Diego, California

I'm ready to start school in the US. I need to cover the cost of 2 exams to enroll.

Graduate school exams are expensive, but I know I can make it through my program once I can pay for these tests.

Overview

I am 27 years old and from North Africa. I have lived in the U.S. for two and a half years and I am currently focused on obtaining my master's degree in Political Science.

My goals are to begin graduate school in Fall of 2017 in order to be able to continue on to a Ph.D. program and further my career in supporting women's rights and research. I am looking forward to the moment when I am capable to help more people work in academic fields and share my experiences to enlighten and empower other women to achieve their goals.

I need to complete the TOEFL exam and the GRE exam. Both required for admission to graduate school, but they are expensive. In addition I need financial support with the application fee for the 3 graduate schools I have chosen to apply to.

Meeting this need will help me because once I have completed the exams I will be able to fully submit my graduate school applications. In additional, with the funds to pay for the application fees I will have no other barriers to applying for school and will be able to further my academic and career goals.

I have known Alma for the past year and a half as her case manager here at Survivors of Torture, International. During that time I have had the opportunity to see how incredibly resilient, motivated and driven she is. I have worked with her on accessing employment, finding volunteer opportunities and support with education. She is so close to reaching her next goal of attending graduate school and we would be so excited to celebrate this achievement with her. I know that with this need being met she will succeed in her exams and will be able to successfully apply to the schools allowing her the opportunity to embark on her career empowering women like herself.
