We are elated that Benevolent has helped Anthony meet his need. Anthony is a hard working and dedicated person who is on a journey to achieve self-sufficiency. We know that Anthony would make an excellent counselor, and Benevolent has provided a helping hand along his path. Having Anthony's need met will enable him to further his education and continue on his road to self-sufficiency. Thank you Benevolent!
Overview
I need help with school fees and books. This includes a registration free, activity fees, a pre-credit resident tuition fee, and four books.
Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to work with other people that are experiencing problems with addiction and homelessness. My goal is to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and I am looking to work with people in treatment centers and homeless shelters by providing education on substance abuse; therefore helping to prevent future use of drugs and alcohol. I'm very determined to reach my goal because reaching my goal will give me the tools needed to perform my job to the best of my ability. So in fact, reaching my goal will help me to better myself and help others in the process.
My current situation is that I'm homeless, living in transitional housing and recovering from a 23-year addiction. I currently have 3 1/2 years clean. I'm presently enrolled in college studying to receive a degree in addiction studies.
I'm from Chicago and I live in subsidized housing through Heartland Alliance.
I'm most proud of my achievements. I have a great concern for people and I have a great interest in making the world better by first helping myself so that i can assist others in achieving their goals. I'm happiest when I'm achieving my goals.

Learn more »We met when Anthony was called off the waiting list that he was placed on for our program (community based case management). I have been working with Anthony for 3 years and I have seen a big change in him. He is determined to reach his goals and has been working very hard to achieve them.
I think meeting this need is important because it will help Anthony obtain employment, which will help him gain self-sufficiency and keep it. It will also help him give back and assist others with gaining or regaining their self-sufficiency; therefore being an example and showing change can happen when hard work and help is applied.

My job title is Case Manager.
My work involves helping individuals become housed by helping them work on barriers they come across during and after homelessness. Once they're housed, I continue to work with them on an as-need basis to help maintain self-suffiency.
