Elizabeth

My job title is Medical Case Manager.

I have been in this position since September 2011.

My work involves assisting newly arrived refugees and asylees navigate the U.S healthcare system. I take participants to doctor's appointments and ensure they get appropriate translation/interpretation. I assist with SSI and public benefits applications. I help participants achieve self-sufficiency.

What I like about my job is working with diverse populations that come from all over the world with unique backgrounds. I like helping people achieve their goals and become healthier.

Other positions I have held at my organization include supervising interns and setting up health education courses for refugees. I also participate in advocacy and research with the local community.

In the future, I would like to continue working with and advocating for refugees on all levels. I would like to continue to see refugee community health improve. I hope to do this through research at a university.

I am very passionate about my role here at Heartland and love to help refugees in any way possible.
